2 Days to CIM Dalton Participants Share Feedback on the CIM Program

FCICA recently held an in-person CIM training event - 2 Days to CIM Dalton (GA). FCICA held the 2 day in-person Certified Installation Manager training at the Hilton Garden Inn Saturday and Sunday, March 10-11, the two days preceding the 2024 Spring Mid-Year Meeting. This in-person event is an intensive training approach where participants complete the CIM Program in 2 days - providing a supportive group learning experience and professional camaraderie.

8 flooring professionals participated in 2 Days to CIM Dalton to become newly designated CIMs – Certified Flooring Managers. Don Styka, CIM, Tarkett, served as mentor.

Two participants, Scott DeBerg, CIM and Brent Stone, CIM, Account Managers with Floors, Inc. out of Lincoln and Omaha, NE flew into Dalton to attend the training and the 2024 Spring Mid-Year Meeting that followed. FCICA asked them for feedback on their experience and the CIM Program.

Scott DeBerg shared, "The 2 Days to CIM training was very informative and worth every penny. As a sub-contract flooring installation company owner for 22 years, I thought this training would be more of a recap. I was very wrong. I came away from this certification with a different perspective on how to handle commercial flooring installation. In the installation world, this business has always been more re-active than pro-active. Every aspect of this training helped me to switch those thoughts and practices to being more pro-active which in turn helps me to capture and retain margins in my projects.

Now, as a Project/Account Manager for a commercial flooring dealer, this training had an immediate effect on retaining profits on my current projects. I would estimate that the first week I was able to hang onto about $1,300 in revenue I normally could have lost. This program paid for itself in my mind. I would highly recommend this training to both first year project managers, installation managers, as well as seasoned veterans who feel like they know the industry inside and out."

And Brent Stone shared his thoughts on the training, "The Program was an intense, 2 day training that added to our knowledge on how to manage a flooring project from beginning to end. Most business have very little time to help new PM’s understand every aspect of the flooring projects - from the pre-job visit, proposal, execution of the install, daily logs, estimated costs vs. actual costs, understanding contracts and claims - to closing out a job. The CIM Program helped with all aspects of the process. The knowledge I gained will help me with future and current jobs to be more efficient, organized, resourceful and most importantly, more profitable."
