Learn About a Recently named Certified Installation Manager
In 2024, 78 flooring professionals received the Certified Installation Manager (CIM) designation. FCICA is proud of the CIM Program as an important educational training program and resource. Since it was launched in 2015, over 480 industry professionals have enrolled in the Program.
One recently named CIM is Anthony Sanmartin, Project Engineer with Dalene Flooring in South Windsor, Connecticut. Anthony attended 2 Days to CIM Florence (AL), the in-person CIM training event hosted by Schonox, in December 2024. Anthony answers the CIM Spotlight questionnaire featured in the Winter 2025 issue of the Flooring Contractor magazine.

What does your current position entail? Briefly describe your work.
In my current position as project engineer, I assist the project manager, overseeing and helping to manage flooring installation projects from start to finish.
As a project engineer, the role combines project management, technical expertise and time management - ensuring flooring projects are completed on time, within budget and meet all required standards.
Why did you become a Certified Installation Manager?
I became a CIM to enhance my skills and expertise in managing flooring installation projects. This certification has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of best practices, improve my project management capabilities and ensure high quality, efficient installations.
How did you enter the flooring industry field?
I entered the flooring industry because of my family’s long-standing involvement in the business, gaining hands-on experience as an installer. Growing up surrounded by the work and values of the family company, I developed a passion for the field and a deep understanding of the operations. Joining the industry felt like a natural progression and I am proud of continuing that family legacy.
What about your work inspires you?
Being a project engineer at Dalene Flooring inspires me because it allows me to work on a wide range of projects that combine both technical and creative solutions. I enjoy overseeing the project from start to finish. Dalene Flooring’s commitment to excellence and its reputation for delivering top-notch results motivates me to continually refine my skills and contribute to projects that leave a lasting impact on our clients.
What’s an interesting thing about you that most people don’t know?
I used to play the violin growing up.
Learn About the CIM Program - FCICA's educational certification, the CIM Program, is a professional educational program and the only certification program available to floor-covering installation project managers. A recognized flooring industry designation, the CIM Program was specifically created for the commercial flooring installation manager. The CIM Program provides video training modules led by industry experts who speak from years of floor covering experience. Paired with assessments to confirm the educational training gained, the modules enhance the qualified flooring professional’s core skill set, experience and knowledge base necessary to successfully manage commercial flooring projects. Individuals who reach this level of expertise are distinguished by the certified installation manager – CIM designation.
CIMs are required to earn 30 hours of continuing education credits every 3 years. Educational credits can be earned via webinars, in-person industry events, onsite training programs – both offered by FCICA or other flooring industry resources. The Program consists of 8 modules:
- Utilizing the Estimate to Manage Installation Costs
- Planning the Job
- Understanding Contractual Obligations
- Scheduling and Assigning Resources for Installation
- Managing On-site Conditions
- Managing Change Orders On-site
- Financial Management - Budget vs. Actual
- Closing Out the Job
